Ministry Background: Growing up, I was involved with St. Joseph’s youth ministry programs—from attending retreats, to staffing retreats, to having the opportunity to participate in Discipleship Week, run by NET ministries.
Throughout college, my ministry opportunities expanded to leading music for nights of P&W, at retreats, and regularly at Mass. Music ministry was a wonderful way to get involved during my time at St. Mary’s while attending Texas A&M. It’s through this that doors opened for more involvement – the opportunity to lead music at and attend the Mentorship Program, run by the Apostles of the Interior Life, to leading a week of worship at Lifeteen’s Covecrest summer camp, and attending FOCUS’s SLS and Seek conferences.
During this time, my desires for ministry grew, and I knew I desired to be a part of ministry long-term. I recognized how it had impacted my own life, and how having people pour into and form me had transformed me, and I desired to make that a regular part of my life, and witness the fruits of ministry in others’ lives while journeying with them toward Christ.
Passions and interests: I really love being a part of music ministries, and just singing, in general. I’m also a huge fan of doing anything outside—but especially day trips to the beach! I am blessed to have a really solid, beautiful community, so typically most of my free time is spent with these friends!
How did you become involved with Ablaze/why are you involved? Growing up in Bryan, Texas and going to St. Joseph, I had the opportunity to get to know Matt Rice and a few of the other staff members who led retreats and youth nights for me during my involvement in the youth ministry program. Since then, I have become really great friends with other staff members, which really opened doors to the possibility of working with Ablaze Ministries.
I became a missionary with Ablaze in February 2016, while in my senior year at Texas A&M, when a position opened up for a Confirmation Coordinator. I have always had a passion for Confirmation and this huge step in the faith life as my own preparation for this sacrament was transformative in my own life. I desire to help students understand what Confirmation is, and prepare them to live lives animated by the Holy Spirit!
Since my first year as a missionary, I have also taken the role of preparing 6th-12th grade students for their Sacraments of Initiation through our Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) – adapted for children. I have loved every minute of this ministry, as I get to journey with a small group of students consistently throughout the whole year as they learn and grow in their faith lives.
“Be not afraid to tell Jesus that you love Him; even though it be without feeling, this is the way to oblige Him to help you, and carry you like a little child too feeble to walk.” – St. Therese of Lisieux
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” – Romans 8:26-27
“Now the consciousness of this friendship of Jesus Christ is the very secret of the saints. Ordinary men can live ordinary lives, with little or no open defiance of God, from a hundred second-rate motives…But no one can advance three paces on the road to perfection unless Jesus Christ walks beside them.” – Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson
