So today being about one week from Halloween, I was initially going to talk to everybody about self control, setting limits, and making sure nobody ate too much candy.
But we’ve got a lot going on this week. This week is Election week. And more than ever before, America is in a tough spot. People are frustrated with the choices they have to make and our country is divided. People are losing hope. For multiple reasons, I’m not going to talk about politics. I’m going to talk about the one person who we can trust in to make a difference in this world.
And as cheesy at is to say: Jesus Christ is the one who is going to make a difference. No, not in the election results. But in my heart. And in yours. When we begin to despair, get sad, long for the “good old days” we start to lose focus on the Kingdom and on God. We’ve actually, without even thinking about it, we’ve placed our hope in the worldly things and societal solutions.
We need to show our kids what it is to trust in our Lord and how to express that trust.
We’ve lost our focus on God. I don’t know about you, but you were made for Heaven and so was I. We need to be eternally focused. We need to be focused on God. Because you know what? This Earth is not Heaven. We were made for Heaven. We need to help our kids understand that they are eternally focused as well. They are made for eternity.
We need to think about the language we use at home. What are we saying about this election at home around our kids? Are we demonizing the other candidate? Are we expressing a doomsday scenario if that candidate was to win? Even if we haven’t done this, other people are, and our kids are learning from them. We need to show our kids what it is to trust in our Lord and how to express that trust.
So I’m going to challenge everybody watching this video to pray for both candidates and to do so without saying anything derogatory remarks about either one. And in that prayer I want you to express that we trust in Jesus, that we trust in our Lord. And that even if the worst of the worst were to happen, that we would still in Him. Governments and societies rise and fall, but the Kingdom of God is forever. And that’s what we were made for and what our kids were made for. That is what we need to remain focused on and help our kids focus on.
God bless, we’ll see you next week!
